25 Under 25: Hollywood’s Hottest Young Stars

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

What He’s Done: After starring in Disney’s massive ‘High School Musical’ series, Efron took his song and dance to the big screen in ‘Hairspray’
What’s Next: Will reportedly star in a remake of ‘Footloose,’ and is in negotiations for a third ‘HSM’; will headline a ‘Big’-style comedy ‘17′
Worth Knowing: Efron starred in the ‘Say OK’ music video for his ‘HSM’ co-star (and now girlfriend) Vanessa Hudgens. He played the love interest, natch.
Industry Buzz: "’17′ will move him away from the same old song and dance, and if he really does do the ‘Footloose’ remake, Efron will have to summon more subtlety in his acting."

Entertainers of the Year: 25 Top Stars of 2007

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

The best part about being so successful at such a young age is…
”Making movies and promoting them and traveling is very culturally enlightening. I get to really travel the world. I find myself in situations that I never would have been in if it weren’t for having a little bit of success from Hairspray and High School Musical.”

The biggest thing learned about the business is…
”I’m still treading that fine line between celebrity and actor. I’ve learned it’s going to be a difficult ride and it’s going to be hard work. I’m trying to stay resolute here and try and just have fun.”

This year’s highlight was… ”I got to meet Barry Bonds. He invited me to watch batting practice at Giants Stadium in San Francisco. So me, my brother, and my dad, who have been going to Giants Stadium for years, finally got to meet this guy who’s like a hero. That’s one of those moments you look at and just think, ‘Wow.”’

-The ideal kind of career would be…
”It would be great to be able to work in high-caliber movies and retain a bit more anonymity. But don’t get me wrong: I’m so thankful for everything that’s happened to me so far, I’ve had so many opportunities.”

If he could put a face to that career…
”Leonardo DiCaprio is someone whose career path I would love to emulate. The problem is there’s not enough scripts about giant boats sinking that are immersed in a love story. I can’t find that script. I’m thinking about writing Titanic 2.

Top items on his wish-fulfillment list are…
”Lately I love my iPhone. I’ve also got a new car that I’m really excited about: an Audi S6. I don’t think anyone in my family tree has ever earned a car this nice. I find myself driving for no reason at all these days.”

Birth Name
Zachary David Alexander Efron

Nickname
Zacquisha

Height
5′ 9" (1.75 m)

Mini Biography

Born in San Luis Obispo, California, and raised nearby in Arroyo Grande, Zac Efron took his first step toward acting at the age of 11 when his parents took note of his singing ability. Singing lessons soon led to an appearance in the production of "Gypsy" that ran 90 performances and he was hooked. After appearing on-stage in "Peter Pan," "Auntie Mame", "Little Shop of Horrors" and "The Music Man", guest parts quickly followed on television series, including "Firefly" (2002), "ER" (1994), and "The Guardian" (2001). After guest-starring in several episodes of "Summerland" (2004), he joined the regular cast as girl-crazy Cameron Bale. Efron also starred in several pilots such as "The Big, Wide World of Carl Laemke" and "Triple Play." He also recently starred as an autistic child in the television movie Miracle Run (2004) (TV), alongside Mary-Louise Parker and Aidan Quinn.

Efron graduated Arroyo Grande High School in June 2006. Efron’s favorite sports include golf, skiing, rock climbing, and snowboarding. He recently added surfing after spending days on the beach for "Summerland." He plays the piano at home, and is currently teaching himself to play the guitar. He’s also currently fixing up two cars in his spare time, a Delorean and ‘65 Mustang convertible, both treasured hand-me-downs from his even-more-treasured grandfather. Efron lives at home with his parents and his younger brother Dylan. They have two highly affectionate Australian Shepherds, Dreamer and Puppy, and a very independent Siamese cat named Simon.

Trivia

Parents: David and Starla Siblings: Dylan Pets: Two Australian Shepherds, Dreamer and Puppy, and Siamese cat, Simon

On the Billboard Hot 100 chart of 2006-02-11, Zac had five simultaneous song credits. The songs were "Get’cha Head in the Game" (solo), 3 duets with Vanessa Anne Hudgens ("Breaking Free," "Start of Something New," and "What I’ve Been Looking For") and "We’re All in this Together" credited to the High School Musical (2006) (TV) cast. All tracks were from the soundtrack of "High School Musical".

The Zac Efron-Vanessa Anne Hudgens duet "Breaking Free" (from High School Musical) made the fastest climb in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, leaping from 86 to 4 in one week (2006-02-11).

With the popularity of High School Musical (2006) (TV), he had to change his phone number after getting numerous calls from fans.

Zac’s most prized possession is his autographed baseball collection.

Is a huge San Francisco Giants fan.

Met his current girlfriend, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, during castings for High School Musical. They were paired together near the end of casting to see how well they worked together.

Favorite Cartoon Show: Rocko’s Modern Life.

He donated many items to Rocky Stone to be given to less fortunate kids as part of the Toy Mountain Campaign.

Attended the World Cup in Germany with Corbin Bleu.

The first concert he ever went to was a Wallflowers concert.

Has one sibling, younger brother, Dylan.

Personal Quotes

The songwriters decided to give Link a cool, upbeat, Elvis-style number, and it’s the perfect time for it in the movie. ‘Ladies Choice’ establishes the connection between Tracy and Link. And it’s the kind of number you need in a sixties musical: the rock ‘n’ roll band at the record hop, with bright colors and backup dancers.

If I had to hear the High School Musical (2006) (TV) songs anymore, I would have jumped off of something really tall. [On why he chose not to do the High School Musical Tour.]
